Looks like a professional panhandler to me. Just after lunch today, a groundhog was giving me the same treatment. I guess there's a lot of mammals out there that kinda semi-hibernate, last winter I had a rather polite skunk visit the cat's kibble dish.
I really believe this squirrel is a professional panhandler. It better to be greeted by this mammal than a smelly skunk on your way out the door.
I had a flying squirrel mommy try and snatch a bit of my scalp, when I was working near a building where she and her family was. They have litters approaching a dozen!
Skunks are usually very laid back, I've chased them away, let them out of box traps... but anything can get hostile when backed into a corner.
